The main season is still several months from starting up again but it’s never too early to get familiar with the dates and make sure you have an up-to-date physical to be eligible to play (they are good for two years). Tentative dates have been set for camp and tryouts:

TEAM CAMP – August 7-10
TRYOUTS – August 14-18

You can also check the calendar for dates and times of all events.

See you at the fields and GO VIKS!

Tryouts begin Monday 8/15

It’s hard to believe but tryouts are here already! We’re very excited to begin the fall season and see what the Lady Vikings Soccer program can do this year. Here are the details for this week:

Monday, Aug 15: 6:30-8:30 PM
Tuesday, Aug 16: 11:00 AM-12:15 PM & 6:30-8:15 PM
Wednesday, Aug 17: 6:30-8:30 PM
Thursday, Aug 18: 11:00 AM-12:15 PM & 6:30-8:15 PM
Friday, Aug 19: 6:30-8:30 PM

Players participating must wear a white t-shirt and have shinguards for any time they may be playing against others, and remember to drink lots of water before showing up!

We want to get started on time so please try to be there 30 minutes early so we can get everyone checked in.

Attendance to all tryout sessions is mandatory for all players in order to be placed in a team and eligible to play in games. If a session must be missed, players may communicate with coaches to agree upon make-up practices or workouts.

In order to play any high school sport, players need to fill out and submit the high school athletic packet to the office, including an up-to-date sports physical.

See you there–GO VIKS!

Future Viks year-end BBQ & HS program updates

Hello soccer lovers! A few updates as the school year winds down:

This Friday (6/3) from 6:00-8:30 PM we are holding a potluck BBQ to celebrate a successful year for the Houck and Parrish middle school girls soccer programs. The event is in the North HS stadium. Anyone who participated in any or all of the fall, winter, and spring seasons is welcome to attend. Family are also welcome and encouraged to join in. Don’t forget to bring at least enough food for your group!

Volunteers from the HS program are still needed.

Fun MS program facts:
– Since November 6 2015, Parrish girls have gone 12 games undefeated (W11 D1)
This spring the Houck 6th-grade and 7th/8th-grade teams each defeated Waldo by a score of 2-1

With the end of the school year we welcome the return of full practice sessions, with the first being this Saturday (6/4), 7:00-8:30 PM in the stadium. The planned schedule for the coming weeks and months is Monday/Wednesday/Friday 7:00-8:30 in stadium, plus Saturdays 12:00-1:30 PM in stadium. This may be subject to change so be sure to check the calendar frequently and watch for news updates.

This Friday (6/3) at 2:30 PM we are meeting in the gym classroom to collect registration forms and discuss the practice and game schedule. The first game is scheduled for Thursday June 16th so you must get those forms turned in!

Thank you to all players, parents, and coaches for a great school year and GO VIKS!

Offseason and Summer League

Are you interested in playing soccer outside of the regular fall season? Then you’re in luck! Currently we are having offseason workouts and open field sessions on Saturdays from 5:00-6:30 PM in the NSHS stadium. Current Lady Vikings Soccer players, incoming freshmen, and students not yet involved but interested in playing are all welcome to attend.

Believe it or not, it’s time to start thinking about summer league soccer! The league is run through OSU’s 4-H program and is a good way for players to gain high school playing experience in a low-pressure setting. If you’re interested in joining, please pick up a registration form from coach Erik or download it here. It’s best to turn in forms directly to coaches, but they may also be brought to the NSHS main office.

It’s a good idea to participate in offseason work as much as possible to improve your skills and fitness before the real deal comes in the fall.

See you at the fields and GO VIKS!

Awards Night and Potluck Dinner, Offseason training

As quickly as it arrived the 2015 fall season has passed by, but that doesn’t mean Lady Vikings Soccer is done until next August! Read on to see what’s coming up:

On Thursday, November 12 from 6:00-8:00 PM we are holding an awards night and potluck dinner for the entire girls soccer program. Players are strongly encouraged to invite their families to join.

All players or families attending are expected to bring something to add to the potluck dinner–snacks or appetizers, dinner items, desserts, beverages, extra plates and napkins and so on, or any number of these. Please bring at least enough for you or your group so there is more than enough food for everyone in attendance. Sign up below:

If your item is locked and you want to change what you’re bringing, please contact Erik directly to get it changed.

As part of the ongoing commitment of the Lady Vikings Soccer players and coaching staff to build a better soccer program, we’ve not had our fill of soccer this fall and are starting the offseason early! Saturday, November 12 from 3:00-5:00 PM we are holding a practice session in the North Salem High School stadium.

See you there and GO VIKS!

Varsity battle to 1-1 draw at home against Woodburn

Following two tough losses away to Aloha and then South Eugene, the Lady Vikings varsity team bounced back with a hard-fought 1-1 draw and outstanding team effort against the Woodburn Bulldogs at the North Salem High School stadium (Littlejohn Field) last Thursday.

The first half began with both teams playing tentatively as neither wanted to give up an early goal. However, the Lady Viks found their footing and began pushing forward with their efforts resulting in a close-range goal from junior Carrie Ochoa, assisted by a cross from freshman Valentina Santos.

Woodburn struck back quickly as they worked the ball into the Viks’ eighteen yard box, and were awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the box away from the play. After tying the score the Bulldogs soon had their post hit by a snapshot header from freshman Melissa Salgado.

An altercation on the field near an assistant referee saw a player from each team red carded, putting both sides at 10 players for the rest of the match.

Woodburn then sprung on the counterattack after a saved North free kick which led to the Bulldogs breaking through the Vikings defense, only to be denied by a superb save from junior goalkeeper Monce Barajas as she rushed off her line.

In a lively second half each team threatened the other’s goal, with strong defending and goalkeeping from both keeping the score even. As the teams tired they gave up chances late, with the Lady Vikings looking more likely to score owing to a resilient defense anchored by junior captain Amy DuVall. The game would finish 1-1.
