Return-to-field practice info

Hello Lady Vikings Soccer family,

FIELD PRACTICES return THIS WEEK! Starting this Wednesday, July 8th we’re on the following practice schedule:

MONDAYS 7:00-8:00pm @ NSHS TURF
WEDNESDAYS 7:00-8:00pm @ BARRICK FIELD

FRIDAYS 7:00-8:00pm @ NSHS TURF

Because of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, we must all follow specific procedures and know some guideliens to ensure we can stay out on the field. For student-athletes, those include:

1. BRING A FILLED-OUT Waiver of Liability for COVID-19 Student Sport or Activity FORM – Players will not be allowed to participate without one! If you cannot print we’ll have forms at the field but you must have a parent/guardian present to complete it
2. WEAR A FACE COVERING when entering and leaving the field, and during practice breaks
3. MAINTAIN 6ft SOCIAL DISTANCING AT ALL TIMES from when you arrive until you leave the field – that includes during all practice exercises!
4. ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR CURRENT HEALTH HONESTLY! Stay home if you feel sick, and LET A COACH KNOW if you start feeling symptoms of illness during practice

5. Water will not be provided; you must bring your own. Hand sanitizer is provided but recommended players have their own
6. LEAVE THE FIELD/FACILITY IMMEDIATELY after the session ends

For parent/guardians, and other spectators:
1. BRING A FILLED-OUT Waiver of Liability for COVID-19 Student Sport or Activity FORM – Players will not be allowed to participate without one! If you cannot print we’ll have forms at the field but you must have a parent/guardian present to complete it
2. NOBODY BUT COACHES AND ATHLETES ARE ALLOWED IN THE FACILITY/ON THE FIELD!
3. MAINTAIN 6ft SOCIAL DISTANCING
when in the parking lot or around the facility
4. CONFIRM YOUR ATHLETE’S HEALTH before letting her participate
5. LEAVE THE FIELD/FACILITY IMMEDIATELY after the session ends

PLAYERS/PARENTS MUST COMMUNICATE WITH COACH ERIK ABOUT ATTENDING PRACTICE FOR A PLAYER TO PARTICIPATE EVEN IF YOU READ THIS POST!

For sessions at North please show up a few minutes early so we can check everyone in while following these procedures as best as possible.

We – parent/guardians, athletes, and coaches – must follow all of these guidelines to ensure we can stay out on the field, and help protect our community’s health. Failure of anyone to do so could result in field practices being shut down again. Please respect these requirements no matter your personal views.

Looking forward to seeing everyone out on the field again – GO VIKS!

Soccer Summer Info 2020

Hello Lady Vikings Soccer family,

I hope you are all doing well, staying healthy and safe! I’m reaching out because it’s time to get moving with North Soccer again and I need your help getting the kids involved in off-season activities.

As our earliest on-field return date is June 30, we have at least two more weeks where the most we can do is distance learning. With tryouts scheduled just two months from now it’s important for players to build skills and fitness. I’ve set up a Google Classroom for our program to help organize distance practices and learning.

GOOGLE CLASSROOM CODE: [CONTACT COACH ERIK OR A TEAMMATE FOR THE CODE]

While I’d like for players to join with their own emails (school district emails will not work, so use Gmail, Yahoo, icloud, etc.), parents/guardians are also welcome to join and see what we’re working on and ensure the kids have the info they need.

I’m hoping to have at least one distance practice session this week, and these may continue through the summer if we need them to keep the kids involved and active. Basically, the players join through Google Meet and participate in hour-long practice which consists of ball-skills work and fitness exercises. They should have a soccer ball, and an appropriate environment (enough space to practice skills and move around a little) and clothing/equipment for a soccer workout. Ideally they have a working camera (phone, computer) so they can be coached as they follow along.

If you have any questions about these practices, please let me know. I’ve had many with my club team and they’ve gone smoothly, with the players showing clear improvement in their ability, so I know for certain the sessions are valuable as long as the players participate regularly.

As we work through different skills, I’ll post updates in the classroom so they can review and work independently plus other info to help keep players moving and grow their knowledge of soccer. With enough participation we can also arrange group events.
Like with any off-season work, everything “assigned” through the classroom is optional. Joining the classroom does not imply any sort of commitment so I strongly encourage even those who are unsure to do so. Please feel free to share the classroom with any girls who are interested in playing soccer at North, as well as current teammates. Anyone else should check with me before joining.

Any way you can encourage your young soccer players to stay involved at this time is hugely appreciated. The rest of the summer is unlikely to go as most have in the past, so we need to work with what we can to learn and grow as a soccer program family together.

Again, if you have any questions at all please reach out. Thank you and I hope to see everyone out on the fields again soon!

And don’t forget – GO VIKS!

See you out on the field – GO VIKS!

Congratulations to our 2018 all-league award winners

SECOND TEAM ALL-LEAGUE:
Elizabeth Hernandez (So., Midfielder/Forward)

HONORABLE MENTION:
Valentina Santos (Sr., Midfielder)
Jacquelyn Alvarez
(Jr., Goalkeeper)

In addition, four players received recognition for their excellent work in the classroom as Varsity student-athletes. Our all-league academic award winners are:
Valentina Santos (Sr.)

Esmeralda Botello (So.)

Congratulations to our outstanding student-athletes, and thank you to all Lady Vikings Soccer players, parents, and staff for a great season!

Until next year,

Practice moved inside for Wednesday 8/22/18

Because of poor air quality we are unable to practice outside today – instead we will be practicing in the main building. Players should meet at 5:00 in the hallway next to the small gyms, and bring soccer shoes appropriate for indoor play (or trainers/running/tennis shoes).

2018 Team Camp and Fall Season Tryouts

Hello Lady Vikings Soccer family,

The 2018 fall season is right around the corner! First up is Team Camp this week and the schedule is as follows:

Monday 8/6: 5:00-7:00pm
Tuesday 8/7: 5:00-7:00pm
Wednesday 8/8: 5:00-7:00pm
Thursday 8/9: 5:00-7:00pm

All team camp sessions are at Barrick Field. Camp is free to attend this year and not required, but strongly encouraged so players can practice their skills and build fitness heading into tryouts.

Speaking of TRYOUTS, those are coming up just next week! Here’s this year’s tryout schedule:

Monday 8/13: 5:00-7:00pm
Tuesday 8/14: 10:00-11:15am & 5:15-7:00pm
Wednesday 8/15: 5:00-7:00pm
Thursday 8/16: 10:00-11:15am & 5:15-7:00pm
Friday 8/17: 5:00-7:00pm

All tryout sessions are at Barrick Field and attendance is mandatory! Players missing any tryout sessions must communicate with coaches and agree to complete make-up work in order to be placed with a team. Please note that Tuesday and Thursday are double days, meaning there are two mandatory tryout sessions on each of those days.

So, what do you need for tryouts? Players must have an up-to-date sports physical (here/español) that are good for two years, and completed high school athletic packet which includes an athletic agreement (here/español), athletic participation form (here/español), and concussion risk acknowledgement (here/español) and turn all forms into the North Salem High School main office along with the athletics fee. Players must bring proof they’re eligible to play to the first session, and should wear shin guards and a white t-shirt.

More info will follow soon about further practices and the fall game schedule – for now, let’s focus on getting everyone out on the field and playing these next two weeks.

If you have any questions contact a coach and we’ll help you out.

Let’s have a great year and GO VIKS!
